The short answer is no. The products we use are not irritating to the skin and should not cause breakout to surface. In fact, having a facial is recommended to speed the healing process and relieve the discomfort of current acne lesions. However depending on the products you use at home you may experience some purging. ‘Skin purging’ refers to a reaction to an active ingredient that is increasing skin cell turnover rate. As skin cell turnover speeds up, the skin starts shedding dead skin cells faster than normal, to expose the fresh skin cells underneath and reveal clearer, younger-looking skin. Before these new, healthy cells can cycle to the surface, other things have to rise to the top first, like the excess sebum, flakes, and buildup that clog pores (aka, everything that makes a pimple).
We recommend that a bride start a facial regimen 8-10 months before the wedding. This will give you time to see a noticeable difference and improvement in your skin as it takes around 28 days for skin cells to turnover. A minimum series of 3-4 facials is recommended (maybe more depending on the condition of your skin), so your skin cells can regenerate and your skincare technician can exfoliate the old ones to prevent dullness and breakouts. A week before your wedding, go in for a soothing, hydrating facial. Avoid any major exfoliation, as you don't want your skin to have an adverse reaction.
